Hezbollah is wary of foreigners by nature. London's pan-Arab daily Asharq al-Awsat, however, said the Shiite resistance has asked Lebanese authorities to flag foreigners traveling to Lebanon using passports from nations linked to the Mabhouh plot. Maj. Gen. Wafiq Jizzini, the director general of Lebanese Public Security, said border security at various checkpoints are linked to people typically with Jewish names. Asharq al-Awsat said there were no formal complaints lodged by British or Irish citizens traveling to Lebanon. Both governments, however, said there were concerned about the new measure. Washington evoked a similar response when it tightened security measures in the wake of a failed attempt to blow up a U.S. passenger jet on Christmas Day. ……….”

As for Hezbollah being wary, it should be. One of its top commanders, Imad Mughniyeh, was assassinated in the heart of Damascus two years ago, reportedly by Israel’s Mossad. I strongly suspect that the Mossad had the enthusiastic possibly crucial support of at least one Arab intelligence agency in the assassination of Mughniyeh, in the heart of an Arab police state.
(Asharq Alawsat is a Saudi daily owned and operated by the family of Prince Salman Bin Abdulaziz. It is pan-Arab in the sense that it is published from the free “Arab” city of London, England, just like my blog is published by the grace of the First Amendment of the USA.)
