A Ben Gurion or a Sheriff of Ramallah Gulch, Overflowing Peace……………

Asharq Alawsat reports that Israeli president Shimon Perez bestowed a problematic honor of PA (Fatah-appointed) Prime Minister Salam Fayyadh by comparing him to the man who was most instrumental in creating Israel. He told him “you are the Palestinian Ben Gurion”. Perez is reported to have told Fayyadh that Ben Gurion built Israel from the ground up, starting with the needed institutions decades before Israel was declared. Salam Fayyadh literally means “overflowing peace”. Of course Perez is a mere president, he doesn’t have the power or the votes that the denizens of the extreme right like Netanyahu and Lieberman (Avigdor not Joe) have. They certainly have no intention of making Salam or Abbas or Dahlan a Ben Gurion of anything. Perhaps the sheriff of Ramallah Gulch would be the best role they could accept for any of them. Both Bibi and Avig (since we are on a first-name basis) have been loudly criticizing Abbas and his coterie for trying to build a Palestinian state.
Cheers
