Saddam Searching For Charisma on Television, Rating Boring Arab Leaders..........

“A television channel dedicated to former Iraqi leader Saddam Hussein has appeared on Arab satellite networks. Its launch came on the third anniversary, on the Islamic calendar, of the former president's execution. It is not clear who is behind the channel which broadcasts the speeches, images and even poetry of Saddam Hussein, backed with patriotic music. It is broadcast from outside Iraq and some analysts suspect his former political supporters of bankrolling it. Saddam Hussein's family and some exiled members of the Baath party he once headed have denied any connection to it. The Associated Press news agency said it contacted a man called Mohammed Jarboua who claimed to be the channel's chairman, in the Syrian capital Damascus. However, his claim can not be verified……..”
I doubt that is bankrolled by Iraqis. Iraqis who supported Saddam did so out of sheer necessity. They had no choice. They probably have better things to do with their mone, if they have it, than a television station glorifying the dead dictator. They and his corrupt officers corps did not even fight to keep him in power.
My guess is that someone with deep pockets in a Persian Gulf state is/are behind it. We have a large supply of fools in my native Gulf, many of them rich enough, and even more of them asinine enough, to sponsor this satellite station. I recall some of those, before 1990, who had named their sons for Saddam and Uday (his son). After August 1990 they were scrambling to change the names.
It is probably their way of poking a finger in the eye of the new Iraqi order, whatever that is.
Say, maybe they can arrange it so that all Gitmo Club detainees will have to watch and listen to the speeches of Saddam 24/7, this most boring of Arab leaders as far as public speaking goes (outside the Gulf region, of course). One thing about Saddam: Westerners had the impression that he was charismatic, because they did not know Arabic. In fact he was one of the most boring Arab leaders (outside the Gulf region, Jordan, Lebanon, and the hall of mummies at the Egyptian Museum).
