Abu Dhabi Prepares for Louvre With Giant Gorilla, Beirut Jigsaw. A three-meter gorilla made of wire boosted Abu Dhabi’s art fair this week, as the city prepares to open offshoots of the Louvre and Guggenheim. The capital of the United Arab Emirates hosted 50 art galleries from 19 countries in its first annual art fair, which closed on Nov. 22. Works by Pablo Picasso and Damien Hirst sat next to David Mach’s “Silver Streak,” a gorilla assembled with wire coat hangers at the Emirates Palace hotel. Abu Dhabi, the fourth-largest member of the Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries, is seeking fame as a cultural hub, even as investor confidence is shaken in the Persian Gulf. Dubai, one of the seven sheikdoms that make up the United Arab Emirates, proposed delaying debt payments on Nov. 25, risking the biggest sovereign default since Argentina in 2001……….”
