Gaza Football League, Hamas Cheerless Leaders, Taliban and NFC in the Pacific Northwest………

“But since Hamas, a militant Islamist group, seized control of Gaza from Fatah in 2007, football has been brought to the brink of extinction. Hamas did more than take over Gaza's political and economic apparatus. They also took over all of Gaza's top sports and football clubs. "We as sports people want to remove sport from politics but politicians on both sides, Hamas and Fatah, play on this, they try to make politics come into sport," explained Ibraheem Abu Saleem, vice president of the Palestinian Football Association [PFA] and the man in charge of the game in Gaza. "The main problem lies with Hamas. When Hamas hands back the clubs to their legal board of directors, sport will be running again in Gaza as in the West Bank."…....…”
This is the story all over the Middle East, especially in the Persian Gulf states. The potentates and princelings always want to start running sports, sort of cutting their teeth in sports before moving on to “higher” things. Almost every sports association and many of the clubs are headed by a kiddy potentate. Hamas has its own sports potentates, like the rest of them.I can’t wait for a Hamas Gaza Football League. They probably will restyle the uniforms in Islamic style. No more tight pants, no more tight ends. Still, given the lousy state of the Seahawks and the rest of the NFC West, I’d even watch a cheereleaderless Taliban Football League these days. Even without the usual Sunday afternoon amenities. Clearly it is football desperation time in the Pacific Northwest.
