Analysis of a Housemaid Issue in the Gulf, Sarah’s Joe, Lucky Guzzler Dog………….
“Indonesia’s decision to stop sending domestic helpers to Kuwait citing concerns over abuse and exploitation stirred indignation among Kuwaitis, while an official at the Indonesian embassy said he was not aware of the reasons behind the decision. The ban is seen as an insult as it tarnishes the country’s image concerning the treatment of domestic laborers, said Fadel Ashkanani, head of the Union of Domestic Labor Offices (KUDLO). “Kuwait is one of the most popular destinations for domestic help,” he told Al Arabiya. “It ranks first in the Gulf region regarding the number of maids in relation to the native population.” ………”
That last quote there is interesting. The ratio is highest in the (Persian) Gulf region, which means it is the highest in the Middle east, which means it is highest in the whole wide world, which almost certainly means it is the highest in our solar system, which means…….. but I suspect there is life in some form somewhere out there. Sarah Palin used to appeal to beer-guzzlers with her “Joe six-pack out there……”. But Joe six-pack has got no Asian housemaid: he’s got a job (if he’s lucky these days), a girlfriend or/and wife (definitely a better half or two) if he is lucky, and a dog (if he is really truly lucky, one of fortune’s favorites).
And I like that acronym KUDLO, reminds me of Larry Kudlow.
