Friedman, Death of Rabin, American Political Menace, God the Extreme Conservative………...

"I was in Israel interviewing Prime Minister Yitzhak Rabin just before he was assassinated in 1995. We had a beer in his office. He needed one. I remember the ugly mood in Israel then — a mood in which extreme right-wing settlers and politicians were doing all they could to delegitimize Rabin, who was committed to trading land for peace as part of the Oslo accords. They questioned his authority. They accused him of treason. They created pictures depicting him as a Nazi SS officer, and they shouted death threats at rallies. His political opponents winked at it all……And in so doing they created a poisonous political environment that was interpreted by one right-wing Jewish nationalist as a license to kill Rabin — he must have heard, “God will be on your side” — and so he did……
“The American political system.......... political and technological trends have converged in the last decade that are making it possible for the idiots of all political stripes to overwhelm and paralyze the genius of our system……..”
I must say I liked this piece by Thomas Friedman much better than some of his Middle East pieces. Still, it is clear that he does not realize that God is a right winger. Why else would he be against such ‘socialist’ abominations as health care for everyone, cheaper college education, and tolerance?
God is also an aspiring robber baron. Why else would He be on the side of the major banks, major investment banks, and major health insurance companies? For there is no doubt about it: He must have ordered his representatives on Earth, many clerics and televangelists (a few telegenic, most otherwise) across the United States, and not just in the South, to stand up for the inalienable rights of corporate America and their maligned CEOs. Why else would the multitude, many of them languishing on the brink of the margin of society, take up the call for corporate America and her CEOs, against their own long-term interests?
That explains why all the Europeans, Godless as they are, are swayed more by reason and plain selfish self-interest, rather than more lofty corporate interests. That is why they seem so attached to their ‘public option’ style of health care.
If you have any doubts, tune in to Fox News and CNBC.
(I almost forgot Lou Dobbs and Rush Limbaugh)
