Iranian Rendition of “Don’t Cry for me Argentina”

Argentina has issues with Mr. Ahmadinejad’s nomination of Ahmad Wahidi as Minister of defense of Iran. The Argentine Foreign Ministry said that the appointment fo Mr. Wahidi is a challenge for Argentine justice and for victims of the violent terror attack on the Israeli-Argentine Society that left 85 dead and 300 wounded in 1994. That was two years after the Israeli Embassy was bombed, killing 22 …..Iranians say that Mr. Wahidi had been a deputy Minister of Defense for some time and that there were no such accusations in the past…..The US State Department spokesman said that Mr. wahidi is wanted by Interpol and it is disturbing that such a person is being nominated as minister…

The 1992 Israeli embassy bombing was widely seen as the work of Hezbullah in retaliation for the assassination of its leader in Lebanon by Israeli agents. Hassan Nasrallah was elected secretary general after that, and clearly some Israelis may feel now that they would have been better off with the old leader alive and leading.
It is likely that several of Ahmadinejad’s nominees will not be confirmed by the parliament, but it is not clear if Mr. Wahidi was, or still is, one of those.
