Commmander Coffeeman of Lebanon- Do Iranians See Plots Everywhere? Saudi Mufti Extolls Child Brides and Dreams of Jeannies- Reports from Bolivia, Karbala, and Najaf
“Commander of the Lebanese Army, Jean Qahwaji, stressed that the army will not hesitate to sacrifice in the case of an Israeli aggression on Lebanon. He called on all military personnel to remain completely ready to defend the land and support the steadfastness of the citizens.” LBCOkay, roger.
“Iranian legal authorities announced Tuesday that they have arrested four Iranians who are accused of involvement in a US-financed plot to overthrow the Islamic regime. An Iranian spokesman said the plot was financed by the government and Congress of the United States. He said this is not the first plot uncovered in recent years against Iran….” Aafaq
This is at least the third such plot I recall reading about over the past few months- not counting the incursions by dissidents across the borders with Pakistan and Iraq. Either the Bush admin is getting smarter about Iran, or the Iranian regime is becoming more paranoid. I suspect it is a bit of both.
Don't mess with our brides. “Shaikh Abdulaziz al-Shaikh, the Mufti of Saudi Arabia (sort of government-appointed theological arbiter and top bureaucrat) has said that girls can marry and consummate at the age of ten. The direct descendant of Mohammad Abdulwahab, the founder of Wahhabism and not the late Egyptian singer/composer Mohammed Abdelwahab whom I much prefer, has said that those who believe a girl is too young at ten or twelve are doing her an injustice....
“He also criticized a former fatwa that allowed using sorcery to offset other acts of sorcery, saying that a sorcerer is a criminal, polytheist and worships the jinn demons. He said those who would allow sorcery to offset other acts of sorcery are promoting the concept of sorcery and reinforcing the jinn. (He lost me in that last one).” Aafaq, Alarabiya, et al.
He has also warned against public demonstrations, unless they are sponsored by the ruler. This man is part of the top religious leadership of the ‘moderate’ New Middle East, which is not only tribal and polygamous to boot, but would also continue to be largely pedophiliac if this maniac has his way. To their credit 'liberal' elements of the Saudi media are trying to weaken the hold of such fundamentalists over society, but it is a tough fight.
“UN Secretary General: Egyptian efforts are decisive for Gaza ceasefire. Mubarak discusses a meeting for donor countries in Cairo to rebuild Gaza. Abulghei t (FM) assures that Israel has used internationally-banned phosphorous bombs…..” al-Ahram
Asinus asinum fricat.
The Emir of Qatar has called for a summit in Doha about Gaza: it looks like most Arab states will attend. Two exceptions are Saudi Arabia and Egypt, and possibly Jordan as a sidekick. All Arab leaders are supposed to meet in Kuwait soon for an economic summit, and some have suggested that Gaza could be discussed then. Now Saudi Arabia has called for a Gulf GCC summit in Riyadh, over Gaza. It is quite confusing, this rivalry between Arab potentates.
“Bolivian president Evo Morales has announced that his country is breaking diplomatic ties with the ‘Zionist Entity’ (that would be Israel in case you didn’t know the vernacular of Middle East media). This comes as a protest against the Israeli aggression on Gaza.”almanar Hezbullah TV
Well, now we've got them exactly where we want them. From now on it's 'La Paz or bust'.
"Paris has decided to name her first child 'London'" alrafidayn, Iraq
I guess they do have other important issue to worry about in Baghdad, besides such things as violence, food, and jobs.
Cheers
